About Me:
I was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma and grew up in other towns and cities on the Great Plains, The Great Plains is the prairie region in the middle of the United States, from Texas to Minnesota. I've lived in these states in the Great Plains: southeast New Mexico, west Texas, central Oklahoma, central Kansas, and southeast Kansas. The land where I live is in the transition zone of the Prairie-Woodland region on the Eastern side of the Central Great Plains. I'm married. We have one daughter. We live on the edge of a small town on a small farm. We raise cattle, grain, and hay. We enjoy fishing for perch, crappie, and bass in our main pond. We have a vegetable garden and several fruit trees. We use as many sustainable practices as possible. In 2008, I received specialized gardening and volunteer training in the Master Gardener system in my county. I am the Neosho County Open Class Plant Science Superintendent. I help supervise plant check-in, display of flowers, plants, and farm crops. I also invite other volunteers to help support the judges' work and other related tasks. Before I began teaching elementary students. I received my BSEd in Elementary Ed at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg Kansas. As a graduate student, I taught linguistics to help university students from other countries improve fluency and English vocabulary. It was very satisfying. Over the years, I continued to add science and special education endorsements. I also taught in grades 5-12 during this time. While I was completing my Masters degree, I was a coordinator of science curriculum in an integrated format that also prepared teachers to actively provide interesting and appropriate education for special education needs. I worked with teachers, grant coordinators, school curriculum coordinators, and administrators for an entire school district. I've been a teaching team leader, a member of the Math curriculum committee, an assessment developer and evaluator, a ThinkQuest Judge, community college instructor, and a variety of ancillary commitments. Later, I received my MSEd in Secondary Education in Environmental Science, Biology, and Chemistry. While I've attended many colleges and universities on NSF grants, both my BSEd and my MSEd were completed at Pittsburg, Kansas close to where I live.
