Library Officer’ in “International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics” [ICRISAT] : Library & Documentation services, Hyderabad A.P [1983-1997] concerned with 1 Computerised collection management of books, conference proceedings, reports, thesis, microforms in core research areas of agriculture and allied fields for the scientists, researchers requests to the ongoing, collaborative and future research projects. 2 Organisation of documents, microforms purchased as well as received on gratis / exchange were classified and catalogued ( Database production manual criteria) according to ‘Universal Decimal classification’ (UDC), AACR cataloguing rules, in-house Database Production manual criteria, using vocabulary control tools like CABI –UK, AGROVOC thesauri and Sears list of subject headings for indexing, specificity of terms for ease of usage in database searching by the users (~ to locate, retrieve items of relevance to their queries). The processed bibliographic data of books, book chapters, conference proceedings and non-conventional literature is validated and uploaded and merged with the existing database collection through BASIS system routine modules. 3. E-Library / “SATCRIS” Database : The database “Semi-Arid Tropical Crops Research Information System” is the information-base of institute’s research mandate crops, agricultural economics, farming systems, irrigation and equipment and allied subjects (team work of library/information science professionals). The input is taken from 1. AGRIS (FAO) on tape 2. CABI (UK) on disc and 3. Local input (referred above item no.2). After thorough validation procedures (i.e removal of unnecessary stuff, duplicate entries etc) the edited data is merged into the already existing database collection. This in-house resource-base which resides on ICRISAT’s MicroVax 3900 is meant to serve both as an online catalog (OPAC) and as subject retrieval ~‘information storage retrieval (ISR)’ to the scientists, policy makers, consumers, researchers for pertinent information in their search, through a well defined ‘user interface ‘(~ based on user & programme-based criteria). The Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) service emanate from this database based on users individual profiles to SAT countries scientific community. 4. Inter-library-loan (ILL) service for specific emergency requests are meted out from agricultural research institutes (eg: APAU, NAARM, NIRD, IPE, All India Coordinated projects etc), Universities in and around twin cities, AP II. As Librarian (Head-Library & Information Center) at M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore carried out the following activities (2002-2007) 1. Management of library resources, staff(20), budget, collection development in Engineering, technology, architecture, management fields fro UG/ PG/ research programmes; Supervision of duties rotation, inter-library-loan service through institutional membership in IISc, CMTI, British library-Bangalore; IIT-B etc 2.
