About Me:
I am Eman Khereba, Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology at American University in Cairo (AUC), Architecture and Community Development minor. I currently work as a digital humanities librarian at AUC. “Data”, “Community Development”, and “Possibilities” are the three driven forces that get me excited to start the journey of learning how to digitize humanities.
Digital humanities’ journey has started with the school of ‘Social Data Analysis and Management’. I collected data, created metadata about the crime in my city ‘Sharkia’. I started on an excel sheet to analyze, and visualize data. Also, I managed to see data a life while mapping on GIS with Dr.Neil Ketchley Lecturer in Middle East Politics, King's College London. This leaves me with a question of “How can digital techniques contribute to the possibilities of the revival of hidden treasures and explore untapped resources and social problems in ‘Sharkia’ my marginalized hometown?”The significance of learning digital techniques presented itself while working with my father on the current project of documenting and digitizing rare documents about Field hockey in my hometown.
New Horizon has been opened since I was accepted in a digital humanities librarian position at AUC. Being part of the digital humanities initiative at AUC, meeting history professors to promote/assist them in integrating digital tools into their classrooms urges me to learn more digital techniques. Moreover, it offers me a chance to search for “how digital techniques contribute to pedagogy, especially in humanities?”, “What are the possibilities that can occur while working with digital data?”, “What are the new research questions that can be emerged?”, “How digital humanities impact the quality of education and the wider community in Egypt?”
Finally, being part of “An Introduction to Digital Humanities” (First preference) or “From Text to Tech” (Second preference) will enrich the opportunity to act towards a ‘field hockey project’ in my hometown and ‘Digital humanities initiatives’ at AUC.
