David Shumaker is Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Library and Information Science of the Catholic University of America. Dave’s research and publication focus on the development and successful implementation of new roles for librarians in all types of organizations. He frequently speaks and conducts workshops on this topic. His book, The Embedded Librarian: Innovative Strategies for Taking Knowledge Where It’s Needed, was termed “a must read for every librarian” by Maureen Sullivan, past president of the American Library Association. He is the founding convenor of the Special Libraries Association's Embedded Librarians Caucus, and continues to share insights on his blog, The Embedded Librarian, at http://www.embeddedlibrarian.com . From 2015-2016, he also served as chair of SLA's Professional Competencies Task Force.
