SEIU has voted to accept the 2007-2010 contract in Kern County. The whole process is a first for me as shop steward and I found the politics on both sides interesting. Why is the whole process so acrimonious?

This is a group for anyone, shop steward or not, who is interested in discussing the purpose of unions in libraries. I especially appeal to experienced shop stewards who could act as mentors to new stewards.

Contract clauses
This is my first time as a shop steward and in an extremely anti-union environment. I'm finding it tough going, my co-workers are either completely uninterested or act enthused but do not support union actions or attend meetings and this is a contract year. I have not received feedback about what they might want to see in the new MOU. Does anyone have any clauses in their MOUs that they think should be part of every MOU?
