What do you do at your library to welcome the Deaf Community? What works? What doesn't?Here in Pasco we are planning basic computer courses for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We are very lucky in that we are working in conjunction with our local Deaf Services group - DHHS of Florida. I will be doing the usual PR for it as well as sending out emails to various Deaf websites that serve our local area. The DHHS will also be getting the word out as well. This is just a first step in adult programs for Pasco, our Children's Librarian has already organized a few signing programs around the county for children. The computer class takes care of a need, but I would also like to find programs that are fun, educational, cultural that the Deaf community would attend. If you have any ideas, please feel free to share!
