Short Session Description (one line):

Actively engaging students with Historical Figure chatbots using Schoolai.com to gain historical perspective, uncover resource bias and foster innovation to support community.

Full Session Description:

Allowing students to have voice and choice in their learning empowers them to not only find relevance in their learning but gives them space to personalize it and authentically dive deeper into that learning process of exploring, questioning and growing.

Exploring:

Connecting students to a Historical Figure chatbot can give them that space to ask questions and gain perspective of that Historical Figure on a texting platform that they are at ease with. We will be showing how to use the Historical chatbot in Schoolai.com as a teacher/librarian in the classroom/library and allowing you to engage in that platform live as a student.

Questioning:

Knowing that these chatbots are pulling resources from the internet to establish a conversation, understanding and identifying bias in those resources is an important digital literacy skill to master. You will be given examples of how to guide your students to identify bias in their chatbot conversations.

Growing:

Upon student reflection of their historical figure chatbot conversation, processing the success and challenges of the Historical Figure can tap into the curiosity of the student to independently come up with innovative ideas that can support themselves and their community. We will give examples of how to channel student curiosity into community-minded innovative learners.
