Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Academic libraries have expanded beyond their traditional roles, now serving as dynamic learning commons that support students both physically and virtually. As technology reshapes education, libraries play a critical role in ensuring equitable access to emerging tools that enhance learning and professional development. Increasingly, academic libraries are transitioning from being primarily centers for books, databases, and research to spaces that also provide hands-on access to AI technologies, fostering innovation and skill development across disciplines.
This session explores how integrating AI-powered VR tools like the Ovation app into library spaces can help students and faculty develop critical public speaking skills. By simulating real-world speaking environments—such as interviews, presentations, and panel discussions—Ovation provides users with immediate AI-driven feedback on pacing, filler words, and audience engagement. This hands-on experience not only builds confidence but also improves digital literacy by familiarizing students with AI-driven learning tools in a structured, ethical manner. This is NOT a sales session for Ovation but rather an examination of how AI can be successfully built into an academic library/learning commons.
This presentation will discuss the implementation of VR for skill-building in academic libraries, ethical considerations in AI-driven training, and strategies for ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in virtual learning spaces. Attendees will leave with actionable insights on how libraries can leverage emerging technologies to support student success in both physical and virtual learning environments.
