Developing ACRL AI Literacy Competencies for Academic Library Workers
Full Session Description:
Numerous surveys (Yoon, J., Andrews, J., & Ward, H.,2021; Bongiovanni, 2024; Lo, 2024) indicate the AI literacy gaps among academic librarians. There is a lack of comprehension, evaluation, and adaptation of AI technologies by academic librarians. The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) created the Taskforce and tasked us to:
- Identify and analyze library workers' specific needs and roles concerning AI.
- Review existing ACRL standards and frameworks for AI relevance and integration.
- Engage with various stakeholders to gather insights and feedback.
- Develop a set of essential AI competencies for library professionals as needed.
- Provide recommendations to the board on the implementation and dissemination of the developed competencies across the profession.
As a member of the ACRL Taskforce, I would like to share a set of AI competencies with the conference participants. They can comment in real-time or provide feedback later.
