Your Name and Title: Reed Hepler, Digital Initiatives Librarian and Archivist (rhepler@csi.edu)
Library, School, or Organization Name: College of Southern Idaho
Co-Presenter Name(s): n/a
Area of the World from Which You Will Present: United States, Idaho
Language in Which You Will Present: English
Target Audience(s): Public Librarians, Library Staff (maybe Academic Librarians, but not as much)
Short Session Description (one line): This presentation will be a brief discussion on the importance of training students for the workplace and how to develop workflows that are ethical and yet make the most use of Generative AI tools.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
I will present a few examples of AI use in the workplace and then open the rest of the time for discussion (essentially the whole time will be used for discussion).
Artificial intelligence will eventually be used in many fields, even in ways that are unthinkable right now. This will be a discussion on helping patrons develop ethical pedagogy and workflow rather than how libraries can use AI internally.
The three biggest "takeaways" from my presentation will be:
Takeaway 1: -- Analyze one's own pedagogy according to field and discipline expectations for workplace AI use.
Takeaway 2: -- Discuss the relationship between theory and practitioners in the context of technology.
Takeaway 3: -- Examine through discussion the utility of AI tools in a particular field.
